His family’s links to the region date back to the early 1900s, with the Murakami name woven deeply into the fabric of the city ever since. Growing up on the northern end of the Gold Coast, Murakami attended Aquinas College before studying painting and later journalism, eventually working in Melbourne’s art world before returning home to complete his law degree.
After being admitted in 1996, he went on to build one of Queensland’s most recognised family law careers, acting in several high-profile matters while developing a reputation for handling emotionally complex cases with a calm and practical approach.
Murakami says family law is ultimately about helping people find solutions during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

Outside of law, Murakami has remained heavily involved in the arts community, supporting portrait prizes, mentoring young artists and continuing his own passion for painting. He also enjoys restoring and collecting classic timber boats, appreciating the craftsmanship and slower pace they represent.
Balancing law, art and lifestyle, Murakami’s connection to the Gold Coast continues to shape both his personal and professional life.
